As a photographer I get asked a lot of questions about photos, but by far the one asked most is, "so what's the difference between prints labs anyway? Aren't they all just the same?" <br />
<br />
My answer is always, it depends. For years I was a loyal fan of my main lab, but they just weren't meeting my needs anymore so I got braved and decided to venture out of my comfort zone to try some of the other great labs in the country. This would help also ensure that my answer was indeed correct. I landed on Nation's after seeing them on Creativelive and have found some great qualities and some things that might need a little improving. (in this case we're just looking at prints)<br />
<br />
When it comes to quality of prints it they are very good. The paper is high quality and you can feel the difference. They are great on their sales, for instance right now you can order a 16x20 in any style of paper for $8.00. That's a steal in an industry where the average 16x20 is at least $16 without the stylized papers. The next great thing is all of them are printed on Kodak Endura paper. Some other labs made a switch because Kodak was having some business issues but their paper is still top of the line which coincides with Nations printing work. The only thing I did not like is the fact you have to pay for test prints. It can get expensive and people can abuse it but it's one of the things I used to try out and compare printing styles because in the end the biggest difference in printers is their ability to match the color you were wanting, for your images to shine. Though I didn't like that it was nice to see the colors when I had the chance to try it and was not disappointed. <br />
<br />
Of course nothing will convince people more than to try it for themselves. With their sale, now is a good time to go for it and fall in love like I did.<br />

I had the privilege, recently, of being able to review a gallery wrapped canvas from <a href="http://www.artsycouture.com/" target="_blank">Artsy Couture</a>. They are a newer company adding their name to the professional photography printing world. They got their start by introducing a new design called Gallery Blocks. A process that involves taking a single image, putting it on a board and than layering small standout images on top, allowing a very unique and 3d effect for your images. They have continued to add products to their line ever since, with the most recent one being their press cards. For this review I only had the chance to try their gallery wraps. To let my readers know the difference (because I get asked a lot) A regular canvas wrap is not as thick and many a times still requires a frame in order to display it. This is because the staples used to hold the canvas taunt are seen on the side of the stretcher bars where as a gallery wrap is usually thicker and the staples are on the back. It's a harder process to accomplish by hand thus they are a bit more expensive but you don't have to frame them, they can be hung on their own. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGhddgYfLcrbLYCxxz6kAlIx-j6oAnv44JIRzU1SosqJWS9KPx8gWmB-p9HQafDckkyOP8wg8aK3PaJkxLTi8pWuQfCvTKNwjdXD9wv7sRDKg6ZErY8f9xNVr4vmTK151HYDaotcDTfRo/s1600/162654_145427902175773_5694110_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGhddgYfLcrbLYCxxz6kAlIx-j6oAnv44JIRzU1SosqJWS9KPx8gWmB-p9HQafDckkyOP8wg8aK3PaJkxLTi8pWuQfCvTKNwjdXD9wv7sRDKg6ZErY8f9xNVr4vmTK151HYDaotcDTfRo/s1600/162654_145427902175773_5694110_n.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Their gallery wraps aren't like many of the others offered in the printing world. They have a special way of making them almost a hardened canvas as opposed to the traditional open back canvas many see today. This is a plus on a couple levels. For those with kids it means there's no way for them to get damaged if someone were to say, throw something at them, it always means they are easier to move and store because again there not a place for something to cause a hole or slit. The con is, they are a lot heavier than a traditional canvas so they will require a more anchored nail for hanging. <br />
Ok on the review:<br />
I ordered a print that should be very familiar, in fact if you look at my previous post you should see the original there. The Artsy Couture ordering system is more set up for photographers than for the average person so in order to place an order you have to download an ROES system. It's pretty easy to use once you do that. Just follow the prompts. I placed the order on 7/29/13 and I had the final product on 8/8/13 It's not the fastest turnaround if you're ordering it for a client or as a gift but it's not bad either.<br />
Here is how it arrived<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVcDrMHfdbfjzoDr7zHXI8NGHSdzOMCDH4sXKuPS6LZhs11qqvTzZToClO2Jb-qZG_CAvmzLmpAJNT8I0wDOZxRabV6L4EUeqS3N-sciT_g_5t3IJimHGuX6nXTxVVqyi78BgwnypbfeM/s1600/2013-08-08+09.13.22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVcDrMHfdbfjzoDr7zHXI8NGHSdzOMCDH4sXKuPS6LZhs11qqvTzZToClO2Jb-qZG_CAvmzLmpAJNT8I0wDOZxRabV6L4EUeqS3N-sciT_g_5t3IJimHGuX6nXTxVVqyi78BgwnypbfeM/s320/2013-08-08+09.13.22.jpg" width="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCtsArLWs7nKnm7nrH9SmqpGCTjOusktkxKBfI6n28gCqRMInnK71Pot8SO9PVgU1rqITMu8p_e7JB3eb6YPOUMU6mYo1XBFeIEIdWhHLsIwuWG_ni3mGFMltdsEEI4tzcXA84amWc_7M/s1600/2013-08-08+09.16.47.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCtsArLWs7nKnm7nrH9SmqpGCTjOusktkxKBfI6n28gCqRMInnK71Pot8SO9PVgU1rqITMu8p_e7JB3eb6YPOUMU6mYo1XBFeIEIdWhHLsIwuWG_ni3mGFMltdsEEI4tzcXA84amWc_7M/s320/2013-08-08+09.16.47.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I was impressed with how well it was packaged and liked the extra bubble wrap<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwZSgb56I5lX5jD7QCfAi0JE-0ONV043-zNev46LT41cGpKL-eP4MpDEsKfdCUd5VGD92d6OTL53rTomnIKV1zkSI2fp7CsPjrQxt6W94FDxxwD4a7tJGg67IkUnsDFqFdkl1C5P3nI2o/s1600/2013-08-08+09.16.57.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwZSgb56I5lX5jD7QCfAi0JE-0ONV043-zNev46LT41cGpKL-eP4MpDEsKfdCUd5VGD92d6OTL53rTomnIKV1zkSI2fp7CsPjrQxt6W94FDxxwD4a7tJGg67IkUnsDFqFdkl1C5P3nI2o/s400/2013-08-08+09.16.57.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Even going all the way to the back and than covered with saran wrap <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilVMmpZeGt3b2qjUD90mmb3cQdzJW6oueADFT3uuqC7ZspC7X848AcDvMway1Ue_6qFia5yt9mYlHsHat46p6JS3uqXmE-ba9PaG5NieUQwGrljhS7odPh60aq_N9Ttayto6FwL97hl0E/s1600/2013-08-08+09.17.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilVMmpZeGt3b2qjUD90mmb3cQdzJW6oueADFT3uuqC7ZspC7X848AcDvMway1Ue_6qFia5yt9mYlHsHat46p6JS3uqXmE-ba9PaG5NieUQwGrljhS7odPh60aq_N9Ttayto6FwL97hl0E/s320/2013-08-08+09.17.20.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Not really sure what the Saran-wrap accomplishes. It maybe used to ensure that there is no rubbing on the corners, which can be a problem sometimes. Something I had actually happen to me when I reviewed another company.<br />
<br />
The final image was quite good. I liked how sharp it was and can see that they have gotten pretty good on their colors.<br />
<br />
The back was also neatly done, complete with a sawtooth to allow you to hang it on the wall. You can upgrade to a wire I think if you choose but the sawtooth works well<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUDR7-5UHboSX09TzWJ95WjVmdmtF_zRicCHvnK2IGuAuUl_f6QRqLFK1QkOlR5UFOyyFPwNevh9PQ5IgQ-ntbmhyphenhyphenXJjdQFGrXO0Yir0uz7rravMmwuxYoZATibNix8iEY_LB7INVtE8o/s1600/2013-08-08+09.19.00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUDR7-5UHboSX09TzWJ95WjVmdmtF_zRicCHvnK2IGuAuUl_f6QRqLFK1QkOlR5UFOyyFPwNevh9PQ5IgQ-ntbmhyphenhyphenXJjdQFGrXO0Yir0uz7rravMmwuxYoZATibNix8iEY_LB7INVtE8o/s400/2013-08-08+09.19.00.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I also wanted to see about image rubbing as mentioned before, wanted to show the thickness and here's the back as well. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcxEqB-SNApQO9kK0T2upxeaANPECVTB2cXtdryxEe5fflK5awIXV1Y8mWerHt9e75oShJN2Pz5XgFXVc5l03w4kT9QtOKNrzhhIdndXB9QvYiKmgSv7-KUT2CPLIe__y825XGtCT1U5g/s1600/2013-08-08+09.20.27.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcxEqB-SNApQO9kK0T2upxeaANPECVTB2cXtdryxEe5fflK5awIXV1Y8mWerHt9e75oShJN2Pz5XgFXVc5l03w4kT9QtOKNrzhhIdndXB9QvYiKmgSv7-KUT2CPLIe__y825XGtCT1U5g/s320/2013-08-08+09.20.27.jpg" width="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs9bKW-E7F1hA6MYx0Yke9fmaKMpQgPAjDc3sLMM6VpRxPVKW8ukNHVH22QCNmD05QGLLrpZppvm-K5iCbALZUtV0Kro1cdHN-sGRxxoOxxEy46XiMbS6HI4BGxN-iG1m3qzWGV4uQiP4/s1600/2013-08-08+09.20.43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs9bKW-E7F1hA6MYx0Yke9fmaKMpQgPAjDc3sLMM6VpRxPVKW8ukNHVH22QCNmD05QGLLrpZppvm-K5iCbALZUtV0Kro1cdHN-sGRxxoOxxEy46XiMbS6HI4BGxN-iG1m3qzWGV4uQiP4/s320/2013-08-08+09.20.43.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
All and all I was pleased with the final product. I'm still not sure if I will offer it to my customers just yet but I'm willing to give it a try. And I can't wait to try their gallery blocks.<br />

Here where I live our community is blessed to have a wonderful farmer's market. It's such a fun thing to go to a place and know that your food has been freshly grown and picked in the area you live. As fun as this is, I took it a step further yesterday and made myself the finder of my food. We have many great pick your own farms, one of which I'm dying to try during apple season but for my adventure yesterday I went to this cute little place called <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Heritage-Family-Farms/389674041424?fref=ts" target="_blank">Heritage Family Farms</a>.<br />
<br />

<br />
It was a bit hot to say the least but they had some of their bushes in the shade and there was a nice breeze so it really wasn't too bad. The experience was so much fun. I couldn't help but feel happy and free seeing all the blueberry beauty around me. Being a photographer I, of course, had to snap a few shots. They probably thought I was nuts. Here are a few of my favorites<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUXcItszWqKI5cyylAWaUP5iITpC5GQU6qTVKFVWqKSjpJ1tAMNZhv2Oxt0OFt-Bn1-eXOazh0SE3EAEP3AjBdKF3vLfEKlJryUq4dcCEJg9ziegWrGo8cthck4uRGfWGmDrx9ylo0Nd8/s1600/IMG_0859+cr+.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUXcItszWqKI5cyylAWaUP5iITpC5GQU6qTVKFVWqKSjpJ1tAMNZhv2Oxt0OFt-Bn1-eXOazh0SE3EAEP3AjBdKF3vLfEKlJryUq4dcCEJg9ziegWrGo8cthck4uRGfWGmDrx9ylo0Nd8/s640/IMG_0859+cr+.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with my bounty yet. The good part is I don't have to decide right away because you can freeze them for up to a year. If you or your family are looking for a fun activity and teaching tool, I would highly encourage you to find a local family farm. It will form a great memory both in the picking and in the food that will be produced after. What are some of the recipes you can use fresh blueberries in?</div>

<br />
It has been a loooong time since I have updated my blog. I want to start by apologizing. I don't know what I've been up to to forget keeping you updated on my lasted fun and adventures. I'm going to do my best to keep things up and going again. Since I last blogged I have decided to go into the direction of Portrait photography. I still do my fine art work and will talk more about those projects in future posts. One of the fun things about doing portrait work is trying out your work on different mediums before offering them to your clients. The most recent trial was with a company called <a href="https://www.facebook.com/myPhotoBarn?fref=ts" target="_blank">Photobarn</a>. They were and I think still are offering a 5x7 print for free you just pay shipping, which was 6.99. I decided to give it a try.<br />
Here is the photo in it's original form<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEharlcoEUAX47AjHbeQ7fwN_8Y0_ZXcQlt_o_8FKblkrEexnoSkgAUl_bZjNnx3fJuNoErv_tlSJsaUb952kwUh9VRoeSB9bhYe-BhEZXLb1ChsiH8eWHMpKGRY7X30bHvPEjssvf4_8r4/s1600/IMG_0041+cr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEharlcoEUAX47AjHbeQ7fwN_8Y0_ZXcQlt_o_8FKblkrEexnoSkgAUl_bZjNnx3fJuNoErv_tlSJsaUb952kwUh9VRoeSB9bhYe-BhEZXLb1ChsiH8eWHMpKGRY7X30bHvPEjssvf4_8r4/s400/IMG_0041+cr.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Cute huh?? Well the cool thing that this company offers is for a print to be printed on wood. And that was the form they were offering for free. I had been anxiously waiting to get it in the mail and today it finally came. It shipped pretty quickly.<br />
<br />
When I first saw the package I was a little disappointed as for $6.99 this is what I got<br />
<br />

It has been sent first class in a bubble envelope. A little disappointing but not horrible. I opened the package and looked inside to find this little guy</div>

You can see the wood grain really well but the printing was just really too light for my taste. You couldn't even see the out line of the wheat grains that faded into the distance. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know, I know it was free what should I expect, but the thing is this little guys normally cost $15 PLUS the $6.99 shipping! A little too pricy for me considering the quality.</div>

In conclusion, it's a great little novelty thing but I don't see me offering this to my customers anytime soon. If you want to give it a try feel free to click on the link I provided in this post and give it a go. Who knows you might have better luck than I. </div>

I can’t remember a time when Disney has not been part of my life. In fact when I was a child I used to wear out my Disney Soundtrack tapes by performing every part of the songs with my stuffed animals as my captive audience. Needless to say I was very excited when, at the age of 11, we first made the trek to the mecca of Disney groupies, Walt Disney World. This was a wonderful trip but true to Disney form a lot had changed when I made return trips in 2008 & 09. Having to wait three years has been torture to me but thankfully we decided to go back again in 2013. This will be in time to enjoy the full fun of the new Fantasyland. So if you hear / see a lot of blog posts in the coming months it will be due to this excitement. Couple with the fact I will have my Canon 7d, with the possibility of a couple new lenses I don’t know if I’ll burst before that time or not. In the meantime here are a few pics of my last few trips plus a great and glorious photo of my brother and myself on our first trip there. I might be following up with some of the great programs, books, and websites that I have discovered a long the way to help make the pilgrimage to this delight land of wonder stress-free.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-HwVN7DCdyjY/UGCRPacX1QI/AAAAAAAAAhM/IRELWR4sKIU/s1600-h/nateandme%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="nateandme" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-bottom: 0px" height="209" alt="nateandme" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-sOzGKAMotdA/UGCRQXlZ4GI/AAAAAAAAAhU/WJBIbspcPmc/nateandme_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="324" border="0"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-TMKgN4061Kc/UGCRRNXEkdI/AAAAAAAAAhc/Ytrm84YPhPE/s1600-h/65600008%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="65600008" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="362" alt="65600008" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4JVjKZfXaZs/UGCRRkjSVPI/AAAAAAAAAhk/nsrn5JvHC5Y/65600008_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="240" border="0"></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ibIgC5bqyws/UGCRSQSW6HI/AAAAAAAAAhs/LePMzKm51fM/s1600-h/65600005%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="65600005" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="363" alt="65600005" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Z4iD74QVjxE/UGCRTCn_S1I/AAAAAAAAAh0/8pOkW9jjK2E/65600005_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="236" border="0"></a> </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj2zMBoNdlt7P514APTllPuFBz3FcgWO5W8xs4PfXyXg7jl9Zafm5FKUH3kOKARxuFaFzZC54Z0lyi6HT9e6QcNifJZ3RVFokXg7D0N1e96vfZraCGIH5oaYk9QAwCWS3ab26h1x4lG2s/s1600-h/595601-R1-05-6%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="595601-R1-05-6" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-bottom: 0px" height="280" alt="595601-R1-05-6" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-l7QvswY0pEw/UGCRUOU880I/AAAAAAAAAiE/JhdEpVzY3QM/595601-R1-05-6_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="496" border="0"></a> </p> <p>Finally here is the infamous photo. I recently purchased a Canon 7D and got to test it out this weekend in Tulsa during a photography workshop. I thought I’d post a few. The first few are from a mock wedding they set up. There were so many cute ideas it was hard to decide which one to go with first</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--qb_ln0Qdhw/T48WeZXnWmI/AAAAAAAAAXA/f_-Ujn1Pbv0/s1600-h/fun%252520007%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="fun 007" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="373" alt="fun 007" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-1y8vSyoi0cw/T48WfISSHMI/AAAAAAAAAXI/-dwRNY5KxtQ/fun%252520007_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="251" align="left" border="0"></a> </p> <p> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-LBRFMqi-ND4/T48Wfn2ehMI/AAAAAAAAAXQ/1HPu9qdtOqE/s1600-h/Picture%252520014%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img title="Picture 014" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="373" alt="Picture 014" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-0slWw9VhGGA/T48WgP7JgTI/AAAAAAAAAXY/z5Xi6NPDo-M/Picture%252520014_thumb%25255B9%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="262" border="0"></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-tPUydhYu02Y/T48WgmnxpxI/AAAAAAAAAXg/M2hnelrcxJw/s1600-h/Picture%252520012%25255B8%25255D.jpg"></p> <p><img title="Picture 012" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="345" alt="Picture 012" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Jg2fg05lWDk/T48WhAyFLmI/AAAAAAAAAXo/DaZkgAimmPY/Picture%252520012_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="517" border="0"></p> <p></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-O_7D9AsMGCA/T48Y3JRqpWI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/B6m6MjJ67Ts/s1600-h/Picture%252520015%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img title="Picture 015" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="244" alt="Picture 015" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-pyL-1D9I3mQ/T48Wi34jkuI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/M5cs5VEqAss/Picture%252520015_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="163" align="left" border="0"></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlruiTN-7D-J1_wuygnL4-SxiGII5BCk3t_GSk7k4TaC0HelpIRMLcF-REyKMDWfZXffGWPecJatTljQj3xAWLfleyYe7AvJtMFoNxnWkRd84UczujFM7jLkhWSrx_v5eJS_GZoBxhtaU/s1600-h/Picture%252520006%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="Picture 006" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="244" alt="Picture 006" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7n6uMEu2SoVtw_0crN35zQrQ-4Sa4_nQbtrZzYB2O9E3a4zlC0-owTM4LLqBiV2TcVU1fwCBWaqvIUG9aToKHbbUQNXbpTE2aP0Od9gcJPY-wPrPqMgr9VEh9Nxp7DXkAJa3KQsXFBd8/?imgmax=800" width="163" align="right" border="0"></a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p align="center">And than came our great models. It’s officially the last day of winter. Although we haven’t had much of one here in Joplin. I figured that after a little bit of a break it was time I returned with a few new photos and a giveaway. How’s that sound for a way to celebrate?? I’ll start with a couple of my newest shots which are available for purchase in my shop. If enough love is shown perhaps a little giveaway might be in store for the future. </p> <p><a href="http://http://www.etsy.com/listing/95021148/fresh-spring-blooms-8x12-etsy-original" target="_blank"><img title="fresh blooms of spring small" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-bottom: 0px" height="350" alt="fresh blooms of spring small" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fvEIbeN49y8/T2dheAJgzFI/AAAAAAAAAWo/HsW9puKLA-M/fresh%252520blooms%252520of%252520spring%252520small%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="467" border="0"></a></p> <p><a href="http://http://www.etsy.com/listing/95511341/spring-fever-8x12-etsy-original"><img title="spring plain" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-bottom: 0px" height="310" alt="spring plain" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHCEu6GPwtoCOWVjVaz5FRxcWug_Sq_yJJm_1Hct-_wTpz8wHZPwp-3OZJ5DZbfCNMWZcqKPmIzuKEhVvo_khaLkWH0_q_wXTJH7WfNbWun3GMyb_8sCvyMdtWv1bLP0onF3laN-jB0_g/?imgmax=800" width="468" border="0"></a> </p> <p>Now onto the giveaway. One of my favorite things to do is rummage through old costume jewelry. I love to think about the possibilities of their new uses or just wearing it in the original way it was intended. Either way they are a great addition to any outfit without the extreme cost. So I think that since the sun is shining a bit more I might as well see about giving everyone some options for the purchase of some great glitter out there. Let me introduce you to Tricia owner of Vogel Haus Vintage. She’s like me and loves sparkly jewelry especially items from the 40’s and 50’s so you’re sure to find something unique and full of great age. Here’s a little bit more about this lovely seller in her own words</p> <blockquote> <p><em>I've loved and collected vintage items, especially jewelry since high school. My mom's stuff was always fascinating to me when I was little, especially the old wigs and hat boxes! My mom is German and my dad was in the military so we lived in many countries as I grew up and this influenced my love of unique items. Starting a shop to share my love for vintage has been a dream for 3 years, but I had to complete my bachelor's degree first...it was my motivation to keep going and I finally made it: degree and shop! Now I'm full time in a graduate program and working hard to give vintage items a new home. The shop focuses on items from the 1970's and before...I was a teenager in the 80's so I don't find those items as exciting :) I hope you get a chance to look around!</em></p></blockquote> <p>And look around they shall because one lucky reader will win a chance to pick and piece worth up to $10. That’s a pretty great thing folks. And not just that, but if you find a piece you just can’t live without, well Tricia was gracious enough to offer a 10% off code to all my followers And with her rock bottom prices that’s a steal. Just type <strong>Raeolight10off </strong>for 10% off total purchase in shop. Here’s a couple photos to give you an idea of what her shop’s got to offer</p> <p><a href="http://http://www.etsy.com/listing/94231938/filligree-vintage-brooch-faux-turquoise" target="_blank"><img style="display: inline; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px" height="187" src="http://img3.etsystatic.com/il_570xN.316513875.jpg" width="250" align="left"></a> </p> <p><a href="http://http://www.etsy.com/listing/88637592/eisenberg-blue-clear-rhinestones-brooch" target="_blank"><img style="display: inline; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px" height="187" src="http://img1.etsystatic.com/il_570xN.295773749.jpg" width="249" align="right"></a> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>So that’s it. All you have left to do is become a winner. Good luck!!</p>

The first lucky couple is Gary and Kelley. Gary lost his home in the May 22nd tornado in Joplin. <h5>
<b><span style="font-size: small;">Where did you get your start making bracelets?</span></b></h5>
<h6>
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;">When I was 8 years old, I went to my Mom and told her I was bored. Instead of telling my to go clean, like she did most of the time, She told me she wanted to teach me how to make friendship bracelets. And I've been hooked ever since :)</span></i></h6>

<b><span style="font-size: small;">When not making bracelets do you have any other hobbies?</span></b><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i><b>Besides making friendship bracelets I love making anything and everything. Many times a day I find myself looking at a random item and wondering what I could make with it.</b></i></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">Tell me a bit about what yourself:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span> <br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>I sell handcrafted, unique jewelry with nautical flare! I enjoy creating beautiful pieces that you can wear year round. I also include seasonal items and paper goods such as cards and gifts. </i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">How did you get started?:</span><br />
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;">During the spring of 2011, I decided to take some time off from my teaching career. Throughout the summer, I began creating jewelry and it has blossomed into my own business. I am really enjoying creating pieces in my free time.</span></i><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> How did you come up with your business name?</span> <br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Inspired by Oceans was literally inspired by the ocean. I spent fifteen years living on the coast of Maine, in particular, a small island named Southport. I enjoy the beauty of the sea, whether it is during boating, scuba diving, swimming, or sightseeing. I recently relocated to the Midwest and have missed seeing the water everyday. Making sea colored jewelry has brought me close to the ocean again! </i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">How long have you been in business?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Inspired by Oceans was opened in June of 2011.</i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">What is your biggest influence when creating?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>My biggest influence during my jewelry creation is the ocean. I enjoy it’s colors; hues of green and blue. I am very influenced by the music that I listen to and by the local history here in Sparta, Wisconsin. I have started to create some jewelry based around the love of cycling in our area. </i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">What advice do you have to offer to others just starting out?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>The best advice that I can give for any small business would be to have a lot of patience. It takes a lot of time and energy to get your business going, but it is rewarding. The confidence that I have gained while creating my business has taken me in even more directions in life. So, stick with what you love and create, create, create! Don’t worry too much about making a profit at first and enjoy what you do! </i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><b>Is there anything else you would like to say/add/share?</b></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>In my everyday life, I am an elementary school teacher. I have six years of experience between kindergarten and pre-k. I enjoy spending most of my time working on crafts, whether it is painting, refinishing furniture, or making jewelry. I spend time with my dog Linekin, who is named after Linekin Bay in East Boothbay, Maine. He and I are the best of friends! I am currently back in school, working on my real estate license. I am happy to announce that I will be working with a wonderful group of colleagues in Tomah, WI.</i></span></blockquote>

After months of having our town constantly reminded of the tragic events of May 22, our city finally had some big excitement come to us this past week. The show Extreme Home Makeover came to Joplin along with a load of volunteers and not only built some incredible homes but boosted our moral. Here are some photos I took of the reveals and other activities. <br />
(if you are a person who likes to be surprised this would be considered a spoiler alert) <br />

But I made a couple small exceptions for two reasons. 1} I was loaned a DSLR! (I think I’m going to have to make the switch soon) 2.} I just love the couple and family I had a chance to *achm* shot : ) So without further ado here are a few fun ones.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhophe2FzV7a8Cw5hNgeI9jhtP89nZdGDGHkxC3IiIbhmNGEKxwcUxsHXe_SiM5yxBJFpcZoWiHoFMZ2csw9H5HvE3O9YWQbNGCzaHPJBILmaara21Wy6kham8hZY5aKY_W8vOdqai1fdQ/s1600-h/Truebloods%252520204%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; I would like to apologize. It seemed with everything going on I just couldn’t get in the time and I unfortunately have been neglectful. </p> <p>To make up for it I’m going to be working on a huge giveaway to encourage you to not give up on me yet : )</p> <p>Until than I thought I would let you know what I’ve been up to. I talked before about how I am slowly becoming a sweepstakes person, well it seems I’ve also added major couponer to the mix. I’m not full fledged just yet but I’m having fun learning in the mean time. </p> <p>Here’s some of the items I got in one small afternoon of shopping, and how I got them. I must beg forgiveness in advance for the photos they were taken with my good ole cell phone.</p> <p><font size="4">#1 A super cute Liz Claiborne clutch</font></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-9qDzJlQs1K0/TnoDfv01BII/AAAAAAAAANk/o2-grYYmFBI/s1600-h/e33b8e7954d4__13147488580005.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="e33b8e7954d4__1314748858000" border="0" alt="e33b8e7954d4__1314748858000" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-aXs_kxAnP-Y/TnoDgX8OnjI/AAAAAAAAANo/4n-7JFzwsfo/e33b8e7954d4__1314748858000_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" width="454" height="303"></a> I found a $10 off $10 or more coupon and lucked out. They had just done their mark downs at JC Penny. This adorable bag was marked down to $10.40, with the $10 off that made it 0.40! It was normally priced $26 </p> <p><font size="4">#2 Rimmel Eye shadow</font></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-P51rwwDiHOk/TnoDg_uiV7I/AAAAAAAAANs/T2PcHhUahPw/s1600-h/fe094d08174d__13147979470009.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="fe094d08174d__1314797947000" border="0" alt="fe094d08174d__1314797947000" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ohaCWA5gw58/TnoDhUd8JWI/AAAAAAAAANw/dFzQowYGG8k/fe094d08174d__1314797947000_thumb7.jpg?imgmax=800" width="292" height="195"></a>This was an experience in “Stacking”. That is the term used when you’re allowed to take a manufacture's coupon and a store coupon and stack them together on the same product. As far as I can tell only two chains still do this, Target (where I got this eye shadow) and Walgreens. This eye shadow originally cost $3.99, Rimmel’s facebook page was offering a $2 off coupon on any of their products and than Target had a $1 off coupon on only Rimmel eye shadow. They had a cheaper one that only had one shade but they were out of all colors save black and white so I opted for this one. At the end it only cost me .99. </p> <p><font size="4">#3 Lip Gloss and Hand Sanitizer</font></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-BwTRMj0xLBk/TnoDh-EDM8I/AAAAAAAAAN0/SGXqYwEaqSs/s1600-h/6eaf1a9b0834__1314797019000%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="6eaf1a9b0834__1314797019000" border="0" alt="6eaf1a9b0834__1314797019000" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-VbRZ2BnMXNA/TnoDjYoAeNI/AAAAAAAAAN4/PYfRVAX-X4Q/6eaf1a9b0834__1314797019000_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="322" height="215"></a> I got these two great items with a surprise VS coupon. It was $10 off $10 or more as well. The lip gloss was $7 and the sanitizer was $3.50, making these two items a whopping .54. </p> <p> </p> <p>All in all I think I spent about $2, not bad if I do say so myself. I think I’m really starting to like this couponing gig. </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxWH4AqlpvPrHIcBQIXq_GIbop1Kwgh-IvYuW6VDMx_EgbS7-Wmj0VeijzDaBGl0xqu2AfEGBZvDpRCUmLM1yQawwGXwrE6A1INfr6U2keJvuP2atQYKnAUg5sNJrUs0YK0ZIkoDohffI/s1600-h/5313a383e7a6__1314797236000%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="5313a383e7a6__1314797236000" border="0" alt="5313a383e7a6__1314797236000" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ph7Qw_6PUuw/TnoDkxF6tdI/AAAAAAAAAOA/-2LfDx8KYR0/5313a383e7a6__1314797236000_thumb%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="374" height="287"></a> </p> <p>If your wondering where I get my best tips you should totally check out this great little blog; <a title="http://moneysavingmom.com/" href="http://moneysavingmom.com/">http://moneysavingmom.com/</a> You can also go on Facebook, “like” some of your favorite products and many a times they have either free coupons or samples. <h3><span style="color: #400040;">Where did the name Mastic come from, what exactly does it mean?</span></h3><i>mas·tic (mstk) n.</i><br />
<i><span style="font-size: medium;"><b>1. The mastic tree.</b></span></i><br />
<i><span style="font-size: medium;"><b>2. The aromatic resin of the mastic tree, used especially in varnishes, lacquers, adhesives, and condiments and as an astringent.</b></span></i><br />
<i><span style="font-size: medium;"><b>3. A paste like cement used in highway construction, especially one made with powdered lime or brick and tar.</b></span></i><br />
<h3><span style="color: #400040;">How did you get involved with making your beautiful jewelry?</span></h3><i><span style="font-size: medium;"><b>I love resin. Passionately. It's fantastic to be able to create something unique that looks extremely professional and doesn't cost a fortune. I also feel like most gentlemen are shafted when it comes to jewelry selection - those boring black cufflinks available at men's formalwear stores just don't cut it for the modern trendy guy who may have to wear a suit to the office, and would like something nifty to accessorize it.</b></span></i><br />
<h3><span style="color: #400040;">How long have you been at this and where do you find ideas and techniques?</span></h3><i><b><span style="font-size: medium;">I've been creating jewelry since I was in grade 7 (for myself and friends), but I recently got married and read this little book called DIY Bride. This book had several resin projects in it which I attempted; the cufflinks turned out wonderfully well, but I was extremely unhappy with the charm method. Because of this, I've set out on a quest to perfect the resin pouring process, and to come up with new unique jewelry products for both men and ladies. I'm also hoping to take some silversmithing classes in the near future so I can make my own bezels, findings and chains.</span></b></i><br />
<h5><span style="color: #400040; font-size: medium;">What makes your shop different than most Etsy jewelry stores?</span></h5><h5><i><span style="font-size: medium;">My store aims to provide unique resin jewelry and accessories for both ladies and gentlemen. I'm slightly addicted to resin work, and am experimenting with new methods all the time. </span></i></h5><i></i> <br />
<h5><b><span style="color: #400040; font-size: medium;">Are there other ways we can keep up with your latest creations?</span></b></h5><i><span style="font-size: medium;"><b>Check out the blog to see my current projects! </b></span><a href="http://http//masticlashes.blogspot.com%20" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: medium;"><b>http://masticlashes.blogspot.com</b></span></a></i><br />

There are a few things that factor into that, one, of course would be all the activity happening here in Joplin. We are constantly on the move and ready to rebuild. Everyday brings a new vision of walls going up where ruble once stood. It’s amazing. But my other diversion has been a new found obsession with a practice commonly called, sweeping. Basically it’s where you enter a ton of sweepstakes or contests in an attempt to maybe win something. My obsession began earlier this year when I decided my wish was to be in Disney for my dreaded 30th birthday. Because of lack of funds I have decided to enter every Disney vacation sweepstakes under the sun. I will actually be looking for your help in one of these coming up in a week or so, so be prepared : ) Until than here’s a few photos from my past visits</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-5IykE5gh38Q/TjqzxEYK6TI/AAAAAAAAALk/_7m-aQlWEzU/s1600-h/595601-R1-01-2%25255B13%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="595601-R1-01-2" border="0" alt="595601-R1-01-2" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-U4bXkvOJ-fQ/Tjqzyt2LK0I/AAAAAAAAALo/ABrv0cfut7U/595601-R1-01-2_thumb%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="275" height="350"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-D-yUaqPnyAg/Tjqzz72DaKI/AAAAAAAAALs/TyvpR6XJItU/s1600-h/goofy%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="goofy" border="0" alt="goofy" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-PiNeU42ZFwY/Tjqz1HHB6CI/AAAAAAAAALw/9qTcjLnZ9Jo/goofy_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="410" height="246"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-JYTSoWKJARk/Tjqz2qqSSBI/AAAAAAAAAL0/18IftlNIMn0/s1600-h/65600007%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="65600007" border="0" alt="65600007" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-MjW5Y72nFmY/Tjqz36I_MwI/AAAAAAAAAL4/XNTNgLdRRLQ/65600007_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="260" height="358"></a></p> <p>As you can see it’s simply a paradise for adults like me who have a hard time growing up. The reason why I throw this out there is because sometimes these giveaways might be a great way to get your items out there. I’m sure many of you have joined my blog to read my very insightful thoughts ; ) but also to keep an eye out for giveaways. </p> <p>If you are an Etsy seller looking to boost your image or at least your sales you might consider sponsoring a fellow blogger. I have had a big boost in my views and sales since I have started offering some of my photos as giveaways. Nothing says look at me, like the word free. </p> <p>There’s a reason contests are done and that’s to get recognition. I, myself, have found some amazing Etsy artists I would have never known existed had they not been sponsoring a giveaway. That being said you should also be careful what you offer from your store. Limit the size of your giveaway based on the amount of exposure you would like to get. For instance, if you are going to be featured on a blog that has over 1,000 followers than I would go big. If you are doing smaller blogs than offer something smaller like a gift certificate or a more inexpensive item. I have found just offering (2) 4x6’s make people very happy. They are a good size for any desk or small viewing area but aren’t so small you feel like you aren’t getting anything great. </p> <p>On the flip side if you are a blogger who has wondered why no one seems to enter here are a few tips. First find legit sites to advertise on. I found that they help boost your viewership through the roof. Also try not to make the entry so difficult. I myself have been guilty of this and the more I entered other giveaways the more I discovered what I like best for entries. (side note I’m actually excited to be able to unveil a new method on my next giveaway coming up Aug 12th) Be sure to look for quality items coupled with sellers who might not have had their break yet. I can say I’ve seen a couple of the sellers featured here finally get their first sale just by their sponsorship. </p> <p>My final advise? Have fun. No matter whether you are sponsor, a blogger, or a die hard entry specialist, don’t forget that it’s just a fun way to connect to new people and have a blast. And as reminder of the blast I hope to have on my 30th birthday I end with just a few more Disney photos : ) And feel free to let me know any tips you might have on making a giveaway better.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-cjhKPjAPoi4/Tjqz5NNwFdI/AAAAAAAAAL8/HnG9k60vWJc/s1600-h/65600008%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="65600008" border="0" alt="65600008" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-ET1oZDLuw_Q/Tjqz6g6B51I/AAAAAAAAAMA/nPmApv2hVEI/65600008_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="253" height="382"></a> </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4we7CCg661w/Tjqz7mwcbCI/AAAAAAAAAME/E2INqOoxW70/s1600-h/WDW%2525202008%252520031%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="WDW 2008 031" border="0" alt="WDW 2008 031" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-LAwvcnSS8TI/Tjqz9NPSQvI/AAAAAAAAAMI/Nrf8M7urWlU/WDW%2525202008%252520031_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="266" height="355"></a></p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_o4agl6T1l5wD6q8tTAMSPWUjGjgBfZM4U9B7SkegSEFe5JSocJLfq0LiMnQ4CQS3Ijgtbkhq4Pp3dax2jZAFx7iUOkqDZQlG-pfwlgtYCi3kMudQ3YS2ePVf6CsLAlHeYw9JTACzv6o/s1600-h/WDW%2525202008%252520006%25255B10%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="WDW 2008 006" border="0" alt="WDW 2008 006" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsrPFeaSc3KXo80PLFHhTDimBzVw9HgcYTKZ-FtJMxyuaMnXwINctFVJFfqKWqJLmxcTCyTs8nLBdD48ULbIj97_671rNT3KCszZPMoIRDpl96u1TA-k6YT65MQyElpitondlBup8OFYI/?imgmax=800" width="493" height="370"></a> </p> <p></p> <p><a href="https://www.facebook.com/EasyCanvasPrints" target="_blank"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="595601-R1-05-6" border="0" alt="595601-R1-05-6" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Ekz3H-BBoT4/Tjq0BKBW41I/AAAAAAAAAMU/GDkqbeSdON4/595601-R1-05-6%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="505" height="327"></a> </p> <p>Click the above photo to like it on their website : )</p> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09668381258298748626noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978266340944937222.post-52975083953583220572011-08-01T10:17:00.000-05:002011-08-01T10:17:26.165-05:00<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><br />

As I gained experience in working with jeweler’s tools and became knowledgeable about gemstones and art glass beads I progressed to necklaces. From time to time strangers would stop me and offer to buy my necklaces on the spot. When this happened twice in one week, I decided to follow my muse.</em></p> <p><strong>Where and how do you come up with your designs?</strong></p> <p><em>All of my necklaces are original creations. I design the piece, and then execute that design in my studio, using carefully selected gemstones that have impressed me with their ability to dance with light. Some pieces include lampwork or hand-blown art glass beads that exhibit the visual vibrancy of a precious stone. Many of my pieces contain my own hand-wrought findings and clasps.</em></p> <p><strong>Do you do custom pieces?</strong></p> <p><em>Custom requests are welcome. </em> <p>Other places to find this Artist <p><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/artisanwear"><font color="#408080"><em>www.etsy.com/shop/artisanwear</em></font></a> <p><font size="5">What you can win: If chosen you will win a $200 gift certificate good towards any item in her store!</font> <h1> </h1> <h1>Artist #2</h1> <h3>ME <3 <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/RaeoLight?ref=si_shop" target="_blank"><font color="#408080">Rae of Light Photography</font></a></h3> <ul> <h1><b><a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/71269012/snow-white-spring-5x7-etsy-original" target="_blank"><img src="http://ny-image3.etsy.com/il_570xN.232278927.jpg" width="383" height="255"></a> </b></h1> <p><font size="4">What you could win: (2) 4x6 prints of your choice</font></p> <h1><b>SO HERE'S WHAT YOU DO: </b></h1> <h5><b></b></h5> <h1><b>Mandatory entries</b><b>:</b></h1> <h4>Simply visit all both Etsy shops and tell me in separate comments which item you like the most! I heard about this phenomenon, where time speeds up when you get older, but I didn’t think it was true. Wow! Well I’m back from a short vacay away from my blog but in that time I got a few more photos back from my travels among the city. I’m still amazed at the love and concern we get from around the world and because of that, not a day goes by that something else is being rebuilt or cleaned up at record speed. </p> <p>I also wanted to let you know to keep at eye out for another giveaway tomorrow. I know you all have been checking back and I have let you down a bit by waiting but I wanted to make it as good giveaway as possible, worthy of all my wonderful followers. </p> <p>Speaking of great followers I would love to hear what kind of items you would love to win. Are there some Etsy sellers you would are curious to learn more about or maybe you would be interested in joining in on the fun. I had several sellers receive some of their first customers from this very venture. Just email me at <a href="mailto:rae_of_light_photos@yahoo.com">rae_of_light_photos@yahoo.com</a> . </p> <p>Here are some of the photos I was hinting to before. I will say I am starting to fall in love with what black and white film can add to an already surreal atmosphere. </p> <p></p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-v8huqDRCzMc/ThXoLKkmQcI/AAAAAAAAALI/S_pj8kgunY8/s1600-h/Christian%252520Science%252520building%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Christian Science building" border="0" alt="Christian Science building" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-wIJk-apigYc/ThXoNwZ8Y-I/AAAAAAAAALM/WkM_a_Zv6JU/Christian%252520Science%252520building_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="336" height="482"></a> <p align="right"> </p> <p align="right"> </p> <p align="right"> </p> <p align="right">The entrance to a local christian scientist church. To say that life will never be the same, seems like such a cliché often repeated, but after May 22 this is more true than ever. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lFEjQ88QgQ4/TgJsRNJbaJI/AAAAAAAAAKw/d23kN8WMAy4/s1600-h/30410015%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="30410015" border="0" alt="30410015" align="left" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-JtVWbDcn71E/TgJsRvo-uOI/AAAAAAAAAK0/WKZddaFLF54/30410015_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="289" height="434"></a> We now live in duel worlds. Part of our community looks as if nothing ever happened. Life seems to continue as before with only the occasional military hummer or foreign colored police car to remind us of the devastation that is just over the horizon; the massive amount of nothingness that occurred only a mile and a half from my home. The other half is, as I stated before, now stands as mounds of ruble similar to the chat piles that once surrounded this old mining community. </p> <p> The first couple of days I looped through a myriad of emotions, feelings such as anxiousness, guilt, and a distinct numbness from the shock of it all. Knowing I could have friends who were no longer here was more than I could bare. I struggled for the words and did my best to find comfort. After I had returned to my home from my storm “shelter” and had a serious talk with my dad by phone, I stayed in my home, though it was a fight as I was pulled toward the flashing red and blue lights that now surrounded everything I once knew. The sirens were deafening and the reports of what was still left were spotty. You would think that all of the residents still spared their homes in Joplin would be the first to hear all the news as it happened, but that was not the case. Those, states some countries away knew the full force of destruction before anyone of us could catch our breathe or think of taking cover from the hail hitting our heads. In fact it wasn’t until the next morning that I saw all that was left of my daily routine. <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-fzZq0PxFxvw/TgJsSGhXvaI/AAAAAAAAAK4/4BUI33P9d2g/s1600-h/30410013%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="30410013" border="0" alt="30410013" align="right" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-QTU8g-oQwec/TgJsTPAltUI/AAAAAAAAAK8/w21vBlPqcv8/30410013_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="288" height="375"></a> </p> <p>By the grace of God most all my friends made it out alive. I had a friend I had just seen that morning who was pulling a shift at the Ihop, two friends who were enjoying some yogurt at the local Cherry Berry and a few others whom I thought were in that part of town but thankfully were delayed for various reasons. </p> <p>I did have one person I knew that didn’t make it as often happens in a smaller community <a href="https://www.facebook.com/FindWillNorton?ref=ts" target="_blank"><font color="#408080">Will Norton</font></a>, a sweet young man that I had the privilege to have in my discipleship group in 2008 was that individual. There was not a person he would not befriend. Those good things that come out about someone after the fact were all true before the fact. He loved Jesus and I’m sure is have a great time working on his next <a href="http://www.youtube.com/will" target="_blank"><font color="#408080">YouTube</font></a> Heaven video. </p> <p> Much has occurred in a month’s time as the task at hand begins to sink in. Our local reports are still filled with death notices and legal stories long after the national spotlight has shifted the rest of the country to other newsworthy events. This was bound to happen and none too shocking. What has surprised me the most is the pace the <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-SMulZydtKho/TgJsTox40ZI/AAAAAAAAALA/CDYgGXisvwQ/s1600-h/30410016%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="30410016" border="0" alt="30410016" align="left" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-4lOak8BDqUI/TgJsT4rsO6I/AAAAAAAAALE/YIHOIDvqOhY/30410016_thumb%25255B12%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="408" height="310"></a> recovery has gone. A family got a home rebuilt by local volunteers in just seven days!! A Walgreens, previously a pile of tornado laden debris, has the new exterior near completion. We are so much stronger than I ever would have imagined. People from around the country are here to help in any way they can maybe not in the numbers we saw in the beginning but they are still here and it’s humbling. I have heard that people have come to help and may not feel they are accomplishing much but just their presence and willingness to give up a Memorial Day, a Father’s Day or even a week worth of vacation, means more than words could ever express. My hope is that we are able to pay it forward, but pray fully a need such as ours will never come again. Sadly, because we are a fallen world I know that eventually there will be another Katrina, Tuscaloosa, Japan, New Zealand and Indonesia. </p> <p>Until that day comes I will continue to focus and reflect on this special challenge that has been laid at our feet. Everyday a new story is revealed in how great this tragedy truly was but almost in a small whisper many symbols join those stories in order to remind us of how much greater our Lord is in the midst of pain. </p> <p>One of those symbols comes in the form Joplin’s school mascot, the eagle. It caused me to reflect on a verse from Isaiah 40:31 and with that verse is how I will close.</p> <h4>But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.</h4> <p><a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/slideshow/ALeqM5jpKbRrCKw7l5pZrnXhaj_SDG_Vkw?docId=06af165a749d43618763dfafd5897cb6&index=0" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/media/ALeqM5j75Wj_9Uski8g-2Vj7qGhILkOZeg?docId=dd26966063ff4e1f820c37306fe38751&size=l" width="482" height="357"></a> </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>(I did not take the above photo but all other photos are mine and I ask that if they are reproduced that you please give me credit, thank you)</p> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09668381258298748626noreply@blogger.com3
